Japanese toy manufacturer X-PLUS unveils the latest entry in their "DefoReal" series: a Glow-in-the-Dark vinyl two-pack featuring Godzilla (1971) and Hedorah (1971) from the film "Godzilla vs. Hedorah." This set is currently available for pre-order through X-PLUS's official online store, Shonen-Ric. Pre-orders run from July 1 to July 27, 2026 (17:00 JST), with an estimated shipping date of November 2026. Priced at 17,600 JPY (tax included), this is a limited-edition item exclusive to Shonen-Ric and the official Godzilla Store.
"Godzilla vs. Hedorah," released by Toho in 1971, was the 11th film in the Godzilla series, addressing the pressing issue of environmental pollution in Japanese society at the time. Hedorah is a pollution monster that descended to Earth from space, growing continuously by absorbing industrial waste. Its body, composed of toxic sludge, is resistant to most physical attacks and can even dissolve Godzilla's skin, making it one of the most impactful antagonist monsters in the series.
The "DefoReal" series is beloved by kaiju collectors for its design concept, which blends intricate monster details with charming, rounded, chibi proportions. This new Glow-in-the-Dark (GID) edition utilizes a special PVC material and features vintage-style paint applications tailored to each monster's appearance. When the lights go out, they glow in the dark, recreating the mysterious ambiance of Showa-era kaiju tokusatsu. The molds used for this release are the same as those from the 2019 "Godzilla (1971) Tagonoura Landing Ver." and the standard Hedorah release, now reinterpreted with fresh color schemes.
