For over two decades, a fifth installment of the hit action-comedy franchise "Lethal Weapon" has been in the works. Original director Richard Donner had planned to return before his passing in 2021, and star Mel Gibson later confirmed he would honor Donner's wishes by taking over to direct and star in the sequel. However, the film's development has now hit a major new hurdle.

Co-star Danny Glover, who will celebrate his 80th birthday on July 22, made a rare public announcement today via People magazine, revealing he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease three years ago. Glover confessed to the outlet that he still hasn't been able to fully accept the diagnosis. He explained that while some memories become a testament to one's own mind through constant recollection, "there are some things I will never forget."
Glover's daughter stated that her father is now finally ready to disclose his condition to the public and share his experience, hoping it can be of service to others who need the information. As Glover's condition may progress, returning to set to memorize scripts and lines will likely become increasingly difficult. Fans hoping to see Gibson and Glover reunite for "Lethal Weapon 5" may need to temper their expectations for now.
