The official Japanese Gunpla flagship store, The Gundam Base, has announced its latest exclusive item from "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury": the "FULL MECHANICS 1/100 Gundam Aerial [Clear Color]". This kit is scheduled to hit shelves at all Gundam Base locations starting July 18, 2026.
The XVX-016 Gundam Aerial is a GUND-ARM type mobile suit developed by the Shin Sei Development Corporation on Mercury. Spearheaded by President Prospera, it is piloted by her daughter, Suletta Mercury. The suit is equipped with a beam saber, beam rifle, and shield. Its most distinctive feature is the shield, which can separate into 11 "GUND-Bits." These can be deployed as remote all-range weapons (funnels) or docked with various hardpoints on the mobile suit and its beam rifle to enhance mobility and firepower. When piloted by Suletta, the Gundam Aerial can activate a high-level "Permet Score," unlocking extraordinary abilities that defy conventional explanation.
The "FULL MECHANICS 1/100 Gundam Aerial [Clear Color]" is based on the previously released standard edition of the kit. This new version recasts the original blue, yellow, red, and white armor pieces in a high-transparency clear plastic. The dark gray parts used for the joints and beam rifle have been swapped for a metallic injection color with a subtle glitter effect. Areas that illuminate when the system is active, such as the head, shoulders, and chest, are faithfully recreated using clear outer parts over inner red-plated components. This construction makes it easier for modelers to apply custom lighting, glow-in-the-dark paint, or other special modifications, offering a distinct aesthetic compared to standard Gunpla.
Compared to the Master Grade (MG) line, the FULL MECHANICS series features a simplified inner frame structure, making for a more accessible build. However, it retains a high level of detail and articulation through sophisticated parts separation, allowing for flexible joints and interlocking armor mechanisms that can replicate natural, human-like poses. The kit includes its signature beam rifle, beam saber, and shield. The shield can be separated into its 11 GUND-Bits and attached to the mobile suit's body and rifle, or displayed in their deployed "funnel" state using a separately sold action base.
