Bandai's premium adult-oriented Kamen Rider belt series, "COMPLETE SELECTION MODIFICATION" (CSM), has announced its latest release from the original "Kamen Rider" series: the "Typhoon Old 1 Edition," slated for November 2026.
The Typhoon Henshin Belt is the transformation device worn by protagonist Takeshi Hongo after he was modified into a cyborg by Shocker. The belt's central windmill generates energy from wind, activating a miniature atomic reactor within his body to power his artificial muscles, transforming Hongo into Kamen Rider 1. This particular release recreates the suit design used by the early Kamen Rider 1, commonly known as "Old 1" or "Kyu Ichigo," seen in episodes 1-13 of the original "Kamen Rider" series. According to the lore, this initial version required Hongo to be riding his Cyclone motorcycle to generate enough wind for transformation, as it had not yet been improved.
The "CSM Typhoon Old 1 Edition" is based on the framework of the 50th Anniversary Typhoon released in 2022, but features extensive new parts to accurately reproduce the "Old 1" version's appearance. This includes the thinner silver front shell, the smaller central windmill with numerous holes, and completely redesigned side switches and knob mechanisms. The belt itself is crafted from genuine leather, now in white, with the rear buckle faithfully recreating its on-screen design. The ruby-like decorative parts throughout the belt are made from a combination of metal and acrylic, capturing that authentic retro aesthetic.
Once batteries are inserted, the belt's internal motor drives the central windmill to spin, faithfully recreating the transformation sequence from the show. While the side switches and knobs are purely for play, the actual functional buttons—"Transformation/Finisher Button," "Dialogue Button," and "BGM Button"—are discreetly hidden on the upper and lower edges of the shell. Pressing these buttons activates transformation sounds, finisher sounds, various functional sound effects, a rich selection of character dialogue, and iconic background music from the series.
This edition largely reuses the Takeshi Hongo/Kamen Rider 1 sound effects from the 50th Anniversary version. These include transformation sounds for various scenarios like motorcycle riding, jumping, and falling, over 30 types of finisher sounds (including those for New 1), led by the iconic Rider Kick, as well as classic in-show dialogue and Cyclone guidance sound effects. For background music, it features 8 classic tracks from "Kamen Rider" episodes 1-13, such as "Kamen Rider no Uta" (Kamen Rider Song) and "LET'S GO!! RIDER KICK (Old 1 Version)." The belt's "Preparation Mode" function allows these BGM tracks to play automatically during transformation.
