Early last month, director Ridley Scott announced plans to helm a new film adaptation of the classic adventure novel "Treasure Island." The project is set to star Hugh Jackman as the iconic pirate villain Long John Silver, with Jack Thorne, showrunner of the HBO series "His Dark Materials," penning the script.
In a recent interview with Empire magazine, Scott not only declared his commitment to delivering a superior adaptation but also, in his characteristic blunt style, lambasted previous film versions as subpar.

Scott didn't mince words in the interview, stating, "All the other 'Treasure Islands' are, if you don’t mind me saying, f***ing awful. They’re always made for children, and they’re always ‘Argh, argh, argh, me mateys!’ and the acting is f***ing over-the-top. This will not be that. This will be more nuanced."
Scott also took the opportunity to mention two other projects currently in development. The first is "Covenant With Death," an adaptation of the World War I-themed novel. The second, an original Western titled "Freewalkers," is slated to be the last to enter production. Scott offered a brief synopsis of "Freewalkers," describing it as "a brutally savage Western, from a very good writer who died during COVID, from an unproduced script. It’s about the survival threat faced by the Cheyenne Native Americans. There are no towns, just the great plains, minus 40 degrees, cold enough to kill. It’s a great script."
