As part of the ongoing Zoids 40th-anniversary celebration, Japanese toy giant Takara Tomy has officially announced the next major release in its "ADVANCED Zi SERIES" lineup: the massive "AZ-17 Ultrasaurus", slated for a late February 2027 release!
The RZ-037 Ultrasaurus is an iconic super-dreadnought class Zoid from the Helic Republic's forces in the "Zoids" universe. This Brachiosaurus-type behemoth is the largest Zoid in the series, canonically measuring 2000 meters. To awaken its core, all seven of its internal power generators must be activated. Equipped with the Empire-developed ultimate weapon of mass destruction, the "Gravity Cannon", it is, in every sense of the word, a mobile fortress.
The "AZ-17 Ultrasaurus" first debuted at this month's 64th Shizuoka Hobby Show, stunning attendees with its immense scale. This absolute shelf-killer measures a staggering 72.1 cm long, 37.9 cm high, and 39.2 cm wide! The entire body features a completely new design and faithfully recreates the iconic "Gravity Cannon," complete with a gear-driven mechanism that simulates the full loading sequence (note: it does not actually fire a projectile)!
The model is equipped with a motorized walking mechanism; as it moves, its neck, tail, 360mm Linear Cannon, and 90mm Triple-Barreled Pulse Laser Cannon all move in conjunction. The eyes and Zoids Core feature LED light-up effects, and the kit can be switched between an underwater Submarine Mode and a static LED Display Mode. Accessories include six 1/72 scale unpainted pilot figures and two poses of Moonbay (also unpainted). The pilots and the seated Moonbay figure can be placed inside the cockpit. Also included are six unpainted, in-scale mini Zoids: the Blade Liger, Lightning Saix, Dibison, Storm Sworder, Geno Saurer, and Iron Kong. The Blade Liger even comes with clear effect parts to recreate its classic launch scene from the anime (note: it cannot actually be launched). For the main cockpit, builders can choose between a tinted or a colorless clear canopy. This release is being offered in three different configurations to suit collector needs: the "AZ-17 Ultrasaurus" base kit, the "AZ-17EX Ultrasaurus Exclusive Gravity Cannon" add-on set, and the all-in-one "AZ-17DX Ultrasaurus Gravity Cannon Version (TAKARA TOMY Mall Exclusive)" bundle!
