TAKARA TOMY's "Transformers x Back to the Future" Gigawatt Returns with 40th Anniversary Packaging!

Japanese toy manufacturer TAKARA TOMY announced today that the "Transformers x Back to the Future" crossover character, Gigawatt, is making a comeback in special 40th Anniversary packaging. Pre-orders are now open on the official "T-SPARK" online store, with an estimated release in late December 2026.

"You're never outta time when you're a time machine." — Gigawatt

Gigawatt is a repentant former Decepticon from a parallel future destined for destruction. Originally a low-level data clerk for the Decepticons, his kind and empathetic nature led him to break away from the faction after his conscience awakened, joining the Autobots to atone for his past. His vehicle mode is the iconic DeLorean time machine, capable of not only hovering flight but also powerful time-traveling abilities. With the help of his human companions Marty and Doc Brown, Gigawatt becomes a crucial guardian of the timestream, traversing different eras to combat the Decepticons and thwart their ambitions of dominating Earth's past and future.

When it was first released in 2020, this "Transformers x Back to the Future" Gigawatt crossover figure was incredibly hot and highly sought after. The limited-edition Walmart exclusive (pictured right), restricted to just 1,985 units, saw its value multiply several times over, making the regular retail version (pictured left) an equally popular and in-demand item.

This collaboration perfectly transforms the most iconic time machine from "Back to the Future," the DeLorean DMC-12, into a Transformer! The vehicle mode not only accurately recreates the stylish gull-wing doors and sleek body, but collectors can also use included accessories to recreate its classic look from the first film, complete with the lightning rod for energy collection. Furthermore, it can be equipped with the "Mr. Fusion" home energy reactor, and its wheels can be flipped down to achieve the "Hover conversion" floating state, perfectly replicating its iconic appearance from "Back to the Future Part II." The character's name, "Gigawatt," is also a clever nod, paying homage to the massive 1.21 gigawatts (1.21 GW) of power required to activate the time machine's core in the movie, subtly integrating classic elements into its design.

In robot mode, Gigawatt's head sculpt features goggles that pay tribute to Doc Brown's classic look. The time machine's critical core device is embedded in his chest, accompanied by control panels displaying the three key years: 1955, 1985, and 2015. For weaponry, Gigawatt's handheld blaster can also be assembled with the "Mr. Fusion" reactor, and antenna parts can be equipped in the shoulder slots.
