Remember the iconic image of Willy the orca leaping over the breakwater? Warner Bros. is looking to recapture that magic. According to an exclusive report today from The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Warner Bros. is officially rebooting its beloved 90s film series, "Free Willy." AGBO, the production company founded by "Avengers" series directors the Russo Brothers, is confirmed to be producing the new version.

While a director has not yet been announced, Mary-Margaret Kunze (pictured right), a former Marvel Studios TV executive, and Jade Halley Bartlett (pictured left), the writer-director of "Miller's Girl," have been tapped to co-write the screenplay. Kunze also served as a producer on "Miller's Girl," marking this their second collaboration.
The original "Free Willy" saga comprised a trilogy of films. In 2010, a direct-to-video soft reboot/spinoff, "Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove," was released, featuring an entirely new cast and a distinct storyline. The newly announced project, however, is confirmed to be a complete hard reboot.
