Disney is reportedly discussing making some content on its streaming platform, Disney+, available for free viewing without a paid subscription, according to a recent report from Business Insider. The outlet stated that an internal Disney employee revealed the company's product and technology executives first discussed plans for a free content tier during a meeting on Thursday. However, the timing or scale of this plan has not yet been finalized.

Business Insider speculates this move is a response to the increasing amount of time U.S. audiences spend watching free platforms like YouTube on their TVs. With rising streaming subscription costs, many American viewers have shifted to ad-supported free content on platforms such as YouTube, Tubi, and Roku. Disney isn't the first to explore this strategy; Apple TV and Paramount+ already offer select episodes of certain series for free to non-subscribers as a trial. However, it remains unclear whether Disney+'s future model will be similar to theirs.
