Danish toy giant LEGO has officially revealed the latest addition to its Ideas lineup: 21372 La Catrina. The 1,212-piece set is scheduled for a global release on August 1, 2026, with a suggested retail price of $139.99 USD.

La Catrina stands as one of the most iconic symbols in Mexican culture. The elegant skeleton figure originated from a zinc etching created in the early 20th century by artist José Guadalupe Posada. It was later popularized and immortalized by renowned muralist Diego Rivera, becoming the central visual emblem of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

This LEGO Ideas set began as a project submitted to the platform by fan designer yop1172. The original proposal was a massive build, standing 89cm tall with nearly 2,894 pieces. The official version has been scaled down to a more display-friendly size, measuring approximately 43cm high and using 1,212 pieces.

One of the most impressive aspects of this model is its creative parts usage. La Catrina's teeth are ingeniously constructed from white minifigure neck brackets, while her jawbone is perfectly represented by a white boomerang element—a clever and precise combination that has earned praise from LEGO fans. The entire set is completely free of stickers; all decorative elements are either printed or brick-built. This includes the sugar skull-adorned round tiles on her dress and the earrings, which are printed versions of the pirate gold coin element from the LEGO Icons Black Pearl set.

In terms of color, the official set features a black dress accented with orange and magenta, a departure from the fan submission's vibrant orange and Mexican pink color scheme. Designer Jim Clayton explained that the choice of magenta was a deliberate nod to the 2021 BrickHeadz version of La Catrina. This specific hue is close to a shade of pink with special significance in Mexican culture, and the revised color palette also offers builders greater opportunities for customization.
