Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro hinted earlier this year that his upcoming Netflix film "Frankenstein," announced last year and slated for 2025, would eventually receive an extended cut. Now, acclaimed home video distributor The Criterion Collection has officially announced the plan.
The Criterion Collection recently unveiled its upcoming October home video slate, which includes the extended version of "Frankenstein," slated for an October 27 release. This extended cut, titled "Frankenstein: The Reborn Cut," restores nearly nine minutes of previously deleted footage, bringing its total runtime to approximately 158 minutes.

Last year, Criterion also released a black-and-white extended version of del Toro's "Nightmare Alley," titled "Nightmare Alley: Vision in Darkness and Light." However, the extended cut of "Frankenstein" will not feature a black-and-white treatment.
In addition to "Frankenstein: The Reborn Cut," Criterion's October home video lineup will also feature a 4K restoration of "The Silence of the Lambs," a comprehensive 30-disc collection of Stanley Kubrick's 13 directed films, and a new restoration of "Christiane F.," among other classic titles.
