Amazon and MGM's live-action "God of War" series faced an unfortunate setback today. Ryan Hurst, cast as protagonist Kratos, unexpectedly tore his biceps during an action stunt sequence and was immediately rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. This is a significant injury, typically requiring four to six months for recovery, and up to a year for full rehabilitation. The production was forced to halt temporarily.

While production paused, the lengthy downtime proved unsustainable. The team has now made the difficult decision to recast Hurst and find a new actor for the role. However, the crew cannot resume immediately. Preparations for the recasting will push pre-production restart to mid-August, with principal photography not expected to resume until mid-October.
Reportedly, the production had initially planned to shoot two seasons consecutively. Before Hurst's injury, four episodes had already been completed. However, the vast majority of these four episodes will need to be reshot. Callum Vinson, who plays Kratos' son Atreus, is a child actor, and children grow quickly. His appearance upon resuming production would not match his look from the earlier filming, rendering the footage unusable.
