The new "The X-Files" series, conceptualized by "Black Panther" franchise director Ryan Coogler, officially cast "Till" star Danielle Deadwyler and British-Indian actor Himesh Patel as the new lead duo this past March. The pilot episode just wrapped production this month. While pilot episodes typically debut on television or streaming platforms, a theatrical release is usually reserved for special promotional events. It appears the new "The X-Files" pilot might be an exception.

According to a report today from World of Reel, the two-hour pilot could be re-edited into a full-length feature film for a theatrical release. Coogler has reportedly pitched this idea to Disney Studios, the parent company of streaming platform Hulu, and is awaiting their decision. However, for Disney to greenlight the proposal, they would likely need to formally order a full first season of the series. Otherwise, investing heavily in a theatrical release without a guaranteed series order could lead to significant losses if the film underperforms and the show isn't picked up.

Jennifer Yale, co-writer for the Apple TV+ series "See" and Peacock's "The Copenhagen Test," serves as showrunner for the new "The X-Files" series. Additional cast members include Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, and Ben Foster.
The official synopsis states: Two highly decorated yet distinctly different FBI agents, played by Deadwyler and Patel, are assigned to a previously long-shuttered department dedicated to investigating supernatural phenomena, where they forge an unexpected friendship while working together.
