Japan's renowned prize figure and toy manufacturer Furyu, through its high-quality character brand F:NEX, has announced the latest product from "Rebuild of Evangelion": the "Shikinami Asuka Langley Japanese Doll 1/4 Scale Figure." This item is slated for release in July 2027 and will be sold on a made-to-order basis.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the "Evangelion" series, F:NEX is collaborating with Yoshitoku for their 21st character figure, featuring the highly popular heroine Asuka. Yoshitoku, an esteemed Japanese doll maker located in Asakusa, Tokyo, boasts a 300-year history. They specialize in crafting traditional Hina dolls for Girls' Day, Musha dolls (Gogatsu Ningyo) for Children's Day, and various other dolls showcasing Japanese traditional culture. In recent years, Yoshitoku has actively partnered with popular modern films, anime, and manga to produce figures, infusing their centuries-old craftsmanship into these contemporary characters. Their corporate slogan, "The life of a doll is in its face (人形は顔がいのち)," reflects their meticulous attention to detail, not only in producing high-quality kimonos or armor but also in imbuing the dolls' faces with soul.
The "Shikinami Asuka Langley Japanese Doll 1/4 Scale Figure" stands approximately 44 cm tall, showcasing a breathtaking design that blends classical Japanese aesthetics. The overall pose is inspired by traditional Japanese fan dances, meticulously capturing her flowing hair, a gentle smile, and graceful, dynamic movements from her steps to her fingertips. This dynamic presentation offers a striking contrast to the serene beauty of the "Rei Ayanami Japanese Doll 1/4 Scale Figure."
The figure's centerpiece, a lavish full-body kimono, was sculpted by renowned Japanese doll artist Ayumi Uyama. The fabric itself was crafted with the assistance of Nishimura Shoji Shoten, a long-established textile merchant in Kyoto. The kimono's design uses the orange, red, and green hues of Asuka's plugsuit from "Evangelion" as its base, accented with green and light purple lining. It features a luxurious two-piece construction adorned with ornate patterns of peonies, chrysanthemums, and other flowers. The obi (sash) is made from "Kinran" brocade, produced by MORISAN, a century-old Nishijin-ori weaving specialist in Kyoto. Its distinctive hexagonal pattern not only symbolizes good fortune, traditionally derived from tortoise shells, but also subtly references the frequently appearing "A.T. Field" from the series.
