The highly anticipated sequel to the classic crime thriller "Heat" is reportedly set to begin filming this November, with casting already falling into place. But according to an exclusive from The Wrap, the sequel isn't the only follow-up in the works—a third film is already in early development.
The current cast reportedly includes: Leonardo DiCaprio, who will take over from Val Kilmer as Chris Shiherlis; Christian Bale, stepping into Al Pacino's shoes as Vincent Hanna; Stephen Graham (pictured below) replacing Robert De Niro as Neil McCauley; and Adam Driver as the new primary antagonist, Otis Wardell.

Michael Mann returns to write and direct "Heat 2," which is based on the prequel/sequel novel he co-authored. The story will reportedly feature two intersecting timelines. One is set a day after the events of the original film, following Vincent Hanna's continued pursuit of the fugitive Chris Shiherlis. The other takes place seven years prior, detailing other heists committed by McCauley, Shiherlis, and their crew, while Hanna is tracking a different criminal. The seemingly separate narratives are expected to collide in a fateful, unexpected way.
The Wrap also noted that an anonymous source involved with the production believes "Heat 2," with a budget of approximately $165 million, has the potential to gross over $500 million worldwide—a significant achievement for a crime film.
