Japanese model manufacturer Kotobukiya has announced a new scale figure from its popular "Megami Device" line: the "PUNI☆MOFU Mao 2/1 Scale Figure", slated for a March 2027 release!
Designed by renowned Japanese illustrator BLADE, PUNI☆MOFU Mao was the first short-statured "low-body" type character in the Megami Device series. Her adorable cat-themed design and playful pink color scheme quickly made her a fan favorite. Building on her popularity, Kotobukiya has since expanded the line with other animal-themed characters like Usagi (Rabbit), Ookami (Wolf), Fukurou (Owl), Rourou (Dragon), and Kirin. Among fans, it's long been rumored that PUNI☆MOFU Mao's design is based on an unproduced, cat-type armor concept also created by BLADE for the classic "Busou Shinki" collaboration between Kotobukiya and KONAMI.
Since Kotobukiya considers the original PUNI☆MOFU Mao model kit to be 1/1 scale, this new release becomes an incredibly rare 2/1 scale figure. Standing at approximately 18cm tall, the figure is based on BLADE's original concept art and boasts more intricate hair details and subtle gradient paintwork than its model kit counterpart. As a non-articulated PVC statue, the sculpt isn't constrained by the need for joints, allowing for an enhanced focus on her soft, fleshy curves—from her chubby tummy and the detailed musculature of her back to her perky rear and thighs! Thanks to the larger scale and the removal of the original's weapon hardpoints, this version features brand-new design elements on her headphones, cuffs, calves, and skirt. The figure includes a polyester fabric cushion for display, and a special articulated joint in her left wrist allows her to be posed holding hands with the upcoming "PUNI☆MOFU Usagi 2/1 Scale Figure"!
