Bandai's Gashapon division is once again diving into the world of the classic animated film "Summer Wars" with a brand-new product line: the "Summer Wars Mejirushi Accessory 2" capsule toys! Each play will be available for a suggested retail price of 300 JPY, with an estimated release in August 2026.
Released in 2009, "Summer Wars" is a critically acclaimed animated film directed by Mamoru Hosoda and produced by MADHOUSE. The story unfolds in a world where the massive virtual platform "OZ" permeates every aspect of daily life. Protagonist Kenji Koiso is asked by his crush, Natsuki Shinohara, to pose as her boyfriend for her grandmother's 90th birthday celebration at their ancestral home in Nagano Prefecture. As Kenji marvels at the sheer size of Natsuki's family, a powerful computer virus emerges, threatening to corrupt OZ...
Gashapon's Mejirushi Accessory series features charming keychains equipped with rubber rings, allowing them to be easily attached to items like umbrellas or water bottles for quick identification, preventing any mix-ups! Following the highly popular first wave released a year prior, the "Summer Wars Mejirushi Accessory 2" once again brings to life the virtual avatars of the film's characters from the OZ world. This second wave includes five different designs: Kenji's temporary avatar (used after his original was hacked by the virus), the blonde-haired King Kazma (Kazuma's avatar), the towering Love Machine (after absorbing numerous accounts), Wabisuke Jinnouchi's avatar, and the German boy's avatar (who famously lent his account to Natsuki during the Hanafuda battle). The German boy's avatar even comes with a speech bubble translated into Japanese that reads "Natsuki, please use my account," perfectly recreating that touching scene!
