Last month, production on Amazon and MGM Studios' live-action "God of War" series was brought to an emergency halt after lead actor Ryan Hurst, cast as Kratos, reportedly tore his biceps during filming. Hurst requires six months to a year for recovery, a timeline the production could not accommodate, leading to the difficult decision to recast the role. However, new reports now indicate that Kratos won't be the only character getting a new actor.

Gaming news outlet MP1st recently revealed that the roles of Atreus and Thrud are also expected to be recast starting in Season 2. Their recasting, however, is not due to injury but rather creative and storyline considerations. According to MP1st, the production has issued casting calls for two new characters, "Joshua" and "Ruth," whose descriptions align closely with Atreus and Thrud, respectively, but with an age range of 14 to 17 years old. The character "Joshua" had even appeared in casting notices last year, described as a series regular with a year-long shooting commitment.
MP1st speculates that the urgency to recast stems from Season 2's narrative adapting events from the later game, "God of War: Ragnarök." This would necessitate older actors to portray the characters' more mature stages, indicating the production's preference to cast age-appropriate actors directly rather than waiting for the current child stars to grow into the roles.
