Danish toy giant LEGO has officially revealed its latest BrickHeadz set, "40859 Golden Age Superman and Batman". Inspired by the heroes' early comic book appearances from the 1938 to 1950s era, this 218-piece set will retail for $24.99 and is scheduled for release on September 1, 2026.
The "Golden Age" of comics is a classic era in the medium's history, kicking off in 1938 with Superman's debut in "Action Comics" #1 and running through the mid-1950s. It marks the origin and heyday of the American superhero. The designs for Superman and Batman during this period were starkly different from their modern counterparts, characterized by more saturated colors, simpler line work, and a distinct aesthetic unique to that time. For countless comic fans, these are some of the most historically significant visual interpretations of the characters.
This new BrickHeadz set recreates the blocky forms of Superman and Batman based on their Golden Age designs. While both heroes have appeared in various BrickHeadz sets before, this marks the first time they've been presented together in their retro comic looks. Superman sports his early comic book vintage red-and-blue color scheme and classic chest emblem. Batman is decked out in his blue and gray uniform, complete with a yellow utility belt and the early Bat-symbol, perfectly capturing the visual style of the 1940s and 50s comics.
The set also includes two hidden Easter eggs for fans to discover. Inside Superman, you'll find a green Kryptonite brick, a nod to the Man of Steel's greatest weakness. Meanwhile, Batman contains a special 20th-anniversary commemorative gold coin celebrating two decades of LEGO DC Batman. This coin is part of a series of Easter eggs that have appeared in various sets this year, making it a fun surprise for DC collectors and LEGO BrickHeadz enthusiasts.
