Tamashii Nations, the collectors division of Bandai Spirits, has officially announced the latest release in its popular The Robot Spirits action figure line! Straight from the upcoming animated film "Patlabor EZY" comes the "AV-98Plus Ingram Unit 2," slated for release in January 2027.
"Patlabor EZY" continues the franchise's timeline, set in the 2030s in a Japan facing a declining labor force. Multi-legged walking machines, known as Labors—once considered cutting-edge technology—are now an integral part of society's infrastructure. However, as AI and automation continue to advance, human-piloted Labors are becoming obsolete, replaced by autonomous robots. Despite these changing times, the Metropolitan Police Department's Special Vehicle Section 2 continues its mission to protect the city and its people. The story follows protagonist Towa Kuga of the second unit, who, along with the upgraded "AV-98Plus Ingram," uses wits and courage to combat ever-evolving technological crimes.
The "AV-98Plus Ingram," utilized by Special Vehicle Section 2 in the 2030s, is a comprehensive upgrade of the original "AV-98 Ingram" that first rolled out in 1998. Both its control system software and mechanical hardware have been significantly enhanced. The pilot's headset now features AR (Augmented Reality) heads-up display technology, allowing them to check vital information without looking away from the action. In the film, protagonist Towa Kuga pilots Unit 1, while Akihiko Aida pilots Unit 2.
The Robot Spirits AV-98Plus Ingram Unit 2 is based on the previously announced Unit 1, brought to life as a fully articulated figure standing approximately 125mm tall. It faithfully captures the more detailed design of the upgraded Ingram, featuring precisely sculpted details like the shoulder patrol lights and chest emblem. It utilizes new parts to recreate the distinct head design, and all markings have been updated to reflect its Unit 2 designation.
The figure boasts an impressive range of motion, with flexible joints in the shoulders, waist, and hips allowing for dynamic poses like kneeling or wielding its weapon with both hands. The face shield can be displayed in its closed position using an interchangeable part. The included long and short "Stun Sticks" can be stowed inside the shield or displayed in their tonfa form via part-swapping. The "Revolver Cannon" can be stored in the right leg armor, and an extending right arm frame part is included to recreate the iconic gun-drawing sequence. Furthermore, this release comes with an all-new, newly sculpted "Type 17 Special Command Vehicle," which can be displayed alongside the separately sold Unit 1 to create awesome deployment scenes.
