Last week, Henry Cavill's long-gestating live-action adaptation of "Warhammer 40,000" announced the addition of contemporary horror master Mike Flanagan, known for "The Haunting of Hill House" and "Doctor Sleep," as a screenwriter. Today, the "Warhammer" cinematic universe is expanding further, with news of an animated spinoff now in development.

Variety exclusively reported earlier that Amazon and MGM Studios, already involved in producing and distributing the "Warhammer 40,000" live-action series, are now also developing a "Warhammer 40,000" animated series. Cavill, who serves as both star and producer for the live-action project, will also continue his involvement as an executive producer for the animated show.
This animated series is actually a spinoff from Amazon's previously released video game adaptation anthology "Secret Level," specifically deriving its story from the "Warhammer 40,000" episode within that series. Blur Studios, the animation studio behind "Secret Level," will also produce this spinoff. Dave Wilson, who directed the "Warhammer 40,000" episode, will return to direct and serve as showrunner for the new series. While plot details remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that the show will center on the "Deathwatch," an elite force of Space Marines.
