Insomniac Games' upcoming PS5 exclusive, "Marvel's Wolverine," is slated for release on September 15, 2026. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) recently unveiled its full rating details, confirming the game will be rated M for Mature, suitable for players 17 and older. The rating cites blood and gore, drug references, intense violence, partial nudity, strong language, and in-game purchases.

Among the most notable details, the rating summary explicitly states: "Several sequences briefly depict a character's bare buttocks." Notably, Wolverine has had similar moments in past film appearances, with Hugh Jackman's posterior becoming a talking point in both "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "Deadpool & Wolverine."

Beyond the partial nudity, the ESRB also detailed the game's level of violence. Players will control Wolverine from a third-person perspective, using his claws to slash, stab, and dismember enemy soldiers and robots. A "berserker mode" allows for faster, more destructive combo attacks and slow-motion finishing moves. Combat frequently features blood spray, screams of pain, dismemberment, and decapitation. Environments may be littered with torsos and limbs, and cutscenes will depict enemies being torn apart in graphic detail.
Furthermore, in-game dialogue will include references to fentanyl and feature strong expletives such as "fuck" and "shit." This rating further confirms that "Marvel's Wolverine" is taking a much darker, more mature, and bloodier direction than Insomniac's previous "Marvel's Spider-Man" series.
