Acclaimed Japanese director Takashi Miike has been busy since last year, lining up three Hollywood-produced English-language films. These projects include a remake of his own classic "Audition" and an original horror film.
Another of these is "Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo," the third installment in the "Bad Lieutenant" franchise. This morning, the film unveiled its first teaser trailer, initial stills, and a Japanese promotional poster (pictured below). Distributor Neon has not yet announced a release date, but the film is set to have its world premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The "Bad Lieutenant" series originated with Abel Ferrara's 1992 film "Bad Lieutenant." In 2009, acclaimed German director Werner Herzog followed up with "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans," a film sharing thematic similarities but no direct narrative connection.
As the subtitle suggests, "Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo" is set in Tokyo. The starring cast includes Shun Oguri, Lily James, and WWE professional wrestler Liv Morgan. Oguri plays the titular corrupt police officer, while James portrays an FBI agent who travels to Tokyo to investigate the disappearance of a politician's daughter (played by Morgan). The two will team up on the case, all while a psychopathic killer watches their every move.
