To commemorate the 60th anniversary of Tsuburaya Productions' beloved "Ultraman" tokusatsu series, Bandai has announced an exciting collaboration with its iconic "Digimon Virtual Pet" LCD toy line. The latest product, "Digimon Color Ultraman Series 60th Edition," is set to launch in February 2027, available in two distinct versions: "ULTRAMAN HENSHIN COLOR" and "GRAFFITI ULTRAHEROES COLOR."
This special collaboration utilizes the "Digimon Color" device, originally released to celebrate Digimon's 25th anniversary. It faithfully replicates the design, size, and button layout of the original 1997 virtual pet. Key modern features include a vibrant color LCD screen and a built-in rechargeable battery with USB Type-C charging. For busy collectors, it also boasts a convenient "Sleep Mode" and a "Backup System" that allows players to save their monster's progress and switch between different characters they are raising.
The two distinct colorways offer unique aesthetics. The "ULTRAMAN HENSHIN COLOR" version is themed around the iconic transformation scene of the original Ultraman, while the "GRAFFITI ULTRAHEROES" version blends pixel art with a dynamic street graffiti style. Both devices leverage UV printing technology to adorn every surface with vibrant, detailed illustrations of classic heroes like the original Ultraman, Ultraman Tiga, and Ultraman Zero. Importantly, the game software content remains identical across both versions, allowing fans to simply choose their favorite aesthetic.
The software faithfully inherits the classic gameplay of the Digimon Virtual Pet, allowing players to raise over 40 different Ultraman and Kaiju characters. These characters can then engage in battles against Digimon. Depending on the chosen character, players can embark on either an "Ultraman Route" or a "Kaiju Route," unlocking even more characters as they progress through the game. Each character is rendered in charming, detailed pixel art, and battles are brought to life with animations of Ultraman's signature beam attacks, transformation scenes from the original series, and a rich array of sound effects. Furthermore, the "Digimon Color Ultraman Series 60th Edition" is fully compatible with previously released "Digimon Color" and "Pendulum Color" series devices, allowing for exciting cross-device connectivity.
