Japanese model manufacturer Megahouse has officially announced the latest release in its new small-scale plastic model series, "VAKIT PLATOON," a spin-off from the VARIABLE ACTION KIT line. The upcoming "VAKIT PLATOON Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" is slated for release in late February 2027, based on the new animated film "Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch."
"Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" is a two-part animated film produced by Sunrise to commemorate its 50th anniversary. The first part is scheduled to premiere in Japan on November 20, 2026. Ryosuke Takahashi, the original creator of the "Armored Trooper VOTOMS" series, will personally supervise the project, with renowned director Mamoru Oshii ("Patlabor," "Ghost in the Shell") at the helm. The film will not only feature classic mechs designed by Kunio Okawara, such as the Scopedog, but also include new mechanical designs from Yuhta Sono, known for his work on the "Armored Trooper VOTOMS AT Stories" manga, and Shishin Tsunoki, the mechanical designer for "Kaiju No. 8."
A special trailer for "Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" has already been released, showcasing Sunrise's impressive technical prowess in seamlessly blending 2D animation with 3DCG. The trailer vividly depicts the Scopedog's exhilarating high-speed maneuvers using its leg-mounted rollers, along with highly realistic gunfire and smoke effects. Accompanied by a brand-new score from Kenji Kawai, the composer for "Mobile Suit Gundam 00," the preview is sure to ignite excitement among fans.
The "VAKIT PLATOON Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Gray Witch" kits are pre-painted, snap-together model kits. This lineup includes four variations of the Scopedog (tentative) and two variations of the Standing Turtle (tentative) as they appear in the film. Each unit is molded in a desert sand yellow, perfect for representing desert camouflage or for custom painting. The triple-lens turrets on the heads are pre-painted with red and green details. Once assembled, each mech stands approximately 8 cm tall, meticulously recreating the intricate armor details and weaponry. Multiple points of articulation, including the neck, waist, and limbs, allow for dynamic posing with various weapons, perfect for recreating battle scenes.
