From Japanese model kit manufacturer Kotobukiya's popular "Megami Device" series, the latest product, "Desire Maiden Raider Sugar Glaze," has been announced for release in December 2026.
The "Desire Maiden" is a brand new character series, with character body design by Ama, the eye print designer for the "Megami Device" series, and mechanical design by Tasuku (@tas_k), who designed the "BUSTER DOLL" series. The first unit, "Raider," features a "little devil" style girl body with deep purple, pink, and black colors. Its armaments incorporate "bat" characteristics, including a head unit with ultrasonic echolocation capabilities and a flight unit equipped with various sword-type weapons and a large shield, making it an assault-type Megami Device specialized for air and close-quarters combat.
The newly announced alternate color version, "Desire Maiden Raider Sugar Glaze," reimagines the unit with sweet colors inspired by sugar confectionery. The kit features new molding in white, gold, pink, and clear green. Ama has also newly illustrated three pre-painted face parts: a "smiling face," a "wahahaha face," and a "manga-style angry face," fully showcasing a charming image that sharply contrasts with the original version. Additionally, the product includes chest parts from its sister unit "Nurse," which can be swapped with the original parts, allowing builders to choose their preferred size.
While the armament parts are identical to the original Raider, the change in molding colors transforms its in-universe setting. It's now depicted as "suitable for bright outdoor combat, emphasizing evasion performance and disruption capabilities," with its weapons generating optical illusion effects to make attacks unpredictable. The bat-ear-shaped ultrasonic unit on the head and the flight unit, connected via movable suspension, both feature articulation. Furthermore, it boasts numerous 3mm universal connection points. Three pairs of weapons—"Prism Dagger," "Luminous Longsword," and "Mirage Rapier"—along with the cross-shaped large shield, can all be mounted on the wings or held by hand via the 3mm points, allowing for dynamic flying and slashing poses.
