The original prequel film "Wonka," a spin-off from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," grossed over $620 million worldwide three years ago, making a sequel almost inevitable. Director Paul King even confirmed two years ago that the script for "Wonka 2" was already in development, and it was reportedly set to begin filming this year. However, lead actor Timothée Chalamet, who plays Willy Wonka, has a challenging schedule, leading to little progress on the sequel thus far.

Simon Farnaby, co-writer and actor for "Wonka," recently spoke with Variety and revealed that the sequel's current delay was due to Chalamet. Farnaby stated that Chalamet wanted to do another film but was unsure about his schedule or his next project. Farnaby further claimed that "Wonka 2" has now been indefinitely postponed. However, following Farnaby's comments, Warner Bros. Pictures officially refuted the news, stating that the information was inaccurate and that the production team was actively pushing for the sequel.

Beyond "Wonka 2," Paul King (pictured left above) and Farnaby (pictured right above) are also developing another major blockbuster. Farnaby recalled that a few years ago, Disney and Lucasfilm invited him and Paul King to conceive a standalone "Star Wars" film, with King slated to direct and Farnaby to write the screenplay. Their initial concept featured a robot protagonist and did not include any known characters from the "Star Wars" universe. However, Disney felt the story wasn't suitable for a "Star Wars" film and has since asked them to rewrite it as an original sci-fi movie, which is currently still in development.
