Disney's two biggest franchises are finally set to collide in a new comic series. Marvel Comics has confirmed that a new five-issue limited event, "Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles," will launch in January 2027 and conclude in May, commemorating the 50th anniversary of "Star Wars." The series will bring together the Avengers, the Rebel Alliance, the Galactic Empire, and Marvel villains.
The series is penned by Kevin Smith and features art by David Marquez. The story's premise involves a "reality-shattering spell" that causes the events of "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope" to unfold on Earth. The Avengers will align with the Rebel Alliance, while Marvel villains are expected to join forces with the Empire.
The official cover art hints at a massive roster of characters, including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Captain America, Spider-Man, Hulk, Doctor Doom, and Darth Vader. Thanos, Ultron, Grand Moff Tarkin, Greedo, Venom, as well as members of the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool, are also visible.
In fact, rumors of a "Star Wars" and Avengers crossover project have been circulating since 2025. Therefore, this official announcement may not come as a complete surprise to some long-time fans who have been following the news.
However, earlier speculation suggested Mark Millar would helm the project. The confirmation that Kevin Smith will now lead the creative team still adds a fresh layer of excitement to this comic event, which unites two of Disney's most iconic IPs.
