Following his starring role in "The Rip" earlier this year, Ben Affleck is set to return to Netflix with his new self-directed and starring crime thriller, "Animals." The streamer just dropped the first trailer and key art for the film.

Affleck leads an ensemble cast that includes Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Adriana Paz, and Ray Fisher, who previously starred as Cyborg alongside Affleck's Batman in "Zack Snyder's Justice League." The film is slated for a global Netflix release on October 9, with a limited theatrical run in North America on the same day.

"Animals" is produced by Artists Equity, the company co-founded by Affleck and Matt Damon, in collaboration with Fifth Season and MakeReady. Both Damon and Affleck also serve as producers. The screenplay was originally penned by Connor McIntyre and later rewritten by Billy Ray, known for "Captain Phillips." The film follows a mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. Surrounded by political adversaries and other threats, he and his wife are left with no choice but to take extreme measures to rescue their child.
