Hong Kong-based toy manufacturer threezero has announced the latest limited-edition release in their collectible robot figure series, "MDLX," featuring meticulously crafted 3- to 7-inch scale figures. The new "Black Zero" figure, from the "Mega Man X" video game series, is slated for an October 2026 release.
First appearing in 1994's "Mega Man X2," Black Zero was originally introduced as a Zero clone and an enemy character, only to be swiftly destroyed by the real Zero who arrived as backup moments later. Despite his brief, ignominious exit, his powerful black color scheme resonated with players. Consequently, starting with 1997's "Mega Man X4," Black Zero was reimagined as a hidden form unlockable via a secret code. In "X5" and "X6," Black Zero's abilities were significantly enhanced, granting him multiple advantages such as halved damage, flinch immunity, strengthened Z-Saber attacks, and reduced energy consumption.
The "MDLX Black Zero" is an updated version of the previously released standard figure. Standing approximately 12.5 cm (4.9 inches) tall, it boasts 36 points of articulation. Its full articulated frame is constructed from a combination of die-cast metal parts and ABS plastic, enhancing joint stability and overall playability, allowing for a wide range of dynamic poses despite its compact size. Magnets are also embedded in the feet, enabling Zero to attach to metal surfaces, perfectly replicating his iconic wall-climbing and jumping poses from the game.
What sets this version apart is its striking color scheme, which replaces the original red and white with a sleek black and white palette, accented by premium gold paint applications. This new look perfectly captures the powerful and mysterious aura of his hidden form. Furthermore, the printed patterns on his forehead, eyes, and shoulder armor, along with all translucent parts and the Z-Saber effects, feature special paint that glows with a futuristic fluorescent effect under UV light.
The figure comes with an interchangeable gritted-teeth expression part for battle poses. In addition to three pairs of interchangeable hands, the "Zero Buster" arm cannon can be attached to either the left or right arm. Zero's signature "Z-Saber" includes two effect parts: a purple blade from "X5" and a green blade from "X6." These effects feature varying degrees of curvature to simulate different slashing intensities and boast a gradient paint application to convey stronger energy concentration closer to the hilt.
