Viral Hand-Drawn "Spooderman" Poster for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" Pulled by Head Office; Artist Lands Comic Con Booth

As "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continues its strong box office run, the viral hand-drawn "Spooderman" poster, which gained traction after a theater failed to receive official promotional materials, has now been ordered down.

The poster was created by Drake Landon, an employee at the Famous Players 6 theater, part of Cineplex in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. When the theater's outdoor display case lacked official promotional assets, Landon drew a crude, meme-style Spider-Man and added a note apologizing that the theater "never received the real posters." This temporary solution unexpectedly went viral on social media, with many users praising his choice to create it by hand rather than using AI.

However, Landon recently revealed in a Reddit post that Cineplex's head office had requested the poster's removal. Landon stated that he had retrieved the poster, explaining that his manager informed him that head office had called, asking for it to be taken down, for reasons he now understood. He added that he did not want to upset the film studio, so he complied.

Landon further clarified that the official materials were not delivered because the distributor had mistakenly sent them to the wrong location. Despite the poster's removal, its viral popularity earned him a free booth at a local comic convention, where he plans to sell limited edition prints or re-drawn reproductions.
