Years ago, Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast" had plans for a spinoff series centered on Luke Evans' villainous character, Gaston. However, last year reports emerged that the Gaston spinoff was being redeveloped as a feature film, with Evans not expected to return. Dave Callaham, co-writer of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," was reportedly tapped to pen the script.

Now, more than six months later, the project has new developments. A prominent entertainment scooper revealed yesterday that Glen Powell is confirmed to take over the role of Gaston.

Veteran entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider later corroborated Powell's casting in "Gaston" on his paid blog, The InSneider. He further added that another male-led spinoff from the Disney Princess universe, the "Prince Charming" solo film, has been terminated. Paul King, the director of "Wonka" who was originally attached to "Prince Charming," has now shifted his focus to developing a Fred Astaire biopic starring Tom Holland.

The "Prince Charming" solo film was originally slated to star Chris Hemsworth and Daisy Edgar-Jones. Hemsworth was reportedly set to portray a "goofy, dim-witted" Prince Charming, with Edgar-Jones playing an animator. Rumors suggested the story would involve Prince Charming leaping from the animator's drawing into the real world. Regardless of its initial concept, the project is unlikely to be revived and may never come to fruition.
