TOHO Cinemas is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone with a major new addition to its premium collector-focused line, The Prime Collection. The “Hogwarts Express Popcorn Box” is priced at 9,800 yen, including tax, and will be released in limited quantities through selected TOHO Cinemas locations and the company’s official online store beginning August 26, 2026.
Arriving alongside the limited theatrical rerelease of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which begins in Japan on August 28, the attention-grabbing popcorn container was previously released overseas to considerable fan interest. The entire train measures an imposing approximately 54 cm long, while the removable carriage roof reveals a generously sized compartment for holding popcorn.
The exterior is equally impressive, recreating the Hogwarts Express with its signature scarlet finish, weighty cast-iron-style detailing across the locomotive and the unmistakable “5972” number plate. Even the complex driving wheels and connecting rods have been carefully reproduced, giving the piece enough presence to double as a large-scale railway display model.
Its standout feature is a working steam effect built into the locomotive. After water is added to the internal reservoir, real vapor rises from the smokestack, evoking the magical sight of the Hogwarts Express preparing to depart Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. Purchases made at participating TOHO Cinemas locations also include one large popcorn, giving the oversized collectible a practical role alongside its considerable display appeal.
