Robin Williams' Children Revive Late Father's Instagram, Take Stand Against AI Misuse of Voice and Likeness

The long-dormant Instagram account of late Hollywood icon Robin Williams has been reactivated by his children, Zachary, Zelda, and Cody Williams. They aim to combat the misuse of his voice and likeness by AI content, sharing authentic photos, videos, and memories.

The trio stated that as they approach what would have been their father's 75th birthday, they are grateful to see a new generation discovering his work and long-time fans continuing to celebrate the joy he brought to life. With evolving technology, they hope the account will become a safe and trusted space where stories, photos, videos, and memories genuinely, warmly, and thoughtfully reflect his legacy.

They added that this is their way of sharing his unique talent and humor with the world, including the moments that made them and many others laugh, while honoring their father's extraordinary life and work. He continues to inspire them and bring joy to people worldwide.

Zelda further explained that she was sorry if anyone was "triggered" by the old account starting to post again. She acknowledged it might seem "a bit strange" but emphasized that transforming the space into a place where people can find authentic clips and photos of him is one of the best ways they've found to combat the rampant misuse of his voice and likeness by AI content.

In fact, she previously urged fans in 2025 to "stop sending me AI videos of my dad," stating bluntly, "If you have any conscience, stop doing this to him, to me, and to yourselves. Completely stop. It's stupid, a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's absolutely not what he would have wanted."

She had also criticized AI voice impersonations, describing them as "poor imitations of great people at best; at worst, a horrifying Frankensteinian monster."

However, "Mrs. Doubtfire" actor Matthew Lawrence once expressed that he would "love to — with all due respect and with the family's permission, of course — do something really special with his voice, because I know for a generation, that voice is so iconic."
