The animated "Golden Axe" series is co-showrun by Mike McMahan, creator of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," and Joe Chandler, co-executive producer of "American Dad!". McMahan also served as a writer on multiple episodes of "Rick and Morty." The voice cast features Liam McIntyre as Ax Battler, Lisa Gilroy as Tyris Flare, and Emmy Award-winning actor Matthew Rhys as Gilius Thunderhead. Danny Pudi voices the new character Hampton Squib, and Carl Tart voices Chronos “Evil” Lait, a character from "Golden Axe III". The series is scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ on September 16.

The official synopsis states that the series follows legendary warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead as they once again unite to rescue Yuria from the clutches of the persistent evil giant Death Adder. Their adventure becomes further complicated by the addition of Hampton Squib, an inexperienced and woefully unprepared adventurer who fantasizes about becoming a hero, a dream far beyond his capabilities. Despite their individual flaws, they are forced to cooperate and must find a way to permanently defeat Death Adder.
