BANDAI HOBBY, the model kit division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS, has announced the latest addition to its highly diverse 1/144 scale Gunpla lineup, the HG 1/144 Gustav Karl (00 Type) (Commander Type), from the animated film "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway." This new kit is scheduled for a November 2026 release and will be available exclusively through Premium Bandai.
The FD-03 Gustav Karl is a cutting-edge, mass-produced general-purpose mobile suit for ground combat, re-designed by the Earth Federation Forces from the RGM-89 Jegan. Boasting superior performance over the standard Jegan, the 'Type 13' saw preliminary deployment for operational testing by various Federation ground units as early as U.C. 0096. By U.C. 0105, during the events of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway," the improved '00 Type' had entered mass production and was gradually being deployed throughout the Earth Federation Forces. This mobile suit is characterized by its heavily armored design and comes equipped with a Beam Rifle and Beam Saber, identical to those used by the Jegan, along with a Jesta-type shield.
This new HG 1/144 Gustav Karl (00 Type) (Commander Type), which appeared in the latter half of the second "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway" film, utilizes newly molded parts to accurately recreate its distinctive asymmetrical blade antenna on the head and a long-barreled Beam Rifle. The kit also includes the standard Beam Rifle and Beam Saber armaments used by regular units. The standard Beam Rifle can be mounted on the backpack, and the Beam Saber hilt can be stored in the side skirt armor. The shield on the left shoulder is attached to an extended backpack arm, allowing it to articulate and defend from multiple directions.
Aside from the head, the overall sculpt is identical to the previously released standard unit. The entire mobile suit features a new sculpt, precise color separation, and the latest articulation mechanisms, reinterpreting Hajime Katoki's updated design for the "Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway" version. The proportions of each armor piece are more natural compared to the UC version, reducing the blocky, pieced-together feel. This includes more appropriately sized shoulder and skirt armor, resulting in a more refined and sharp aesthetic. Furthermore, the hip joint connectors incorporate a sliding mechanism, significantly expanding the range of leg articulation.
