To commemorate the upcoming conclusion of the 9-year display of the Odaiba "Unicorn Gundam" life-sized statue and its closing ceremony on August 29th, Japan's official "Mobile Suit Gundam" Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, has announced the release of a new commemorative product: the "MEGA SIZE MODEL 1/48 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL". Pre-orders for this item will soon open on the official online store PREMIUM BANDAI, with sales beginning August 29th at THE GUNDAM BASE TOKYO store in Odaiba.
First unveiled in 2017, the life-sized statue of the "RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC (TOKYO WATER FRONT CITY)" is one of Odaiba, Japan's most iconic landmarks. Standing 19.7 meters tall and weighing 49 metric tons, it features approximately 50 illuminated points across its body that display a rich variety of colors. Its armor is adorned with new markings designed by mechanical designer Katoki Hajime. The statue even incorporates transformation gimmicks, including antenna deployment, face changes, and the expansion of shoulder, waist, and knee armor, allowing it to gradually transform from "Unicorn Mode" to "Destroy Mode" with accompanying light and sound effects.
The "MEGA SIZE MODEL 1/48 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL" is a modified version based on the Ver. TWC release that debuted with the statue's opening in 2017. The kit features multiple molded color parts, including white, clear red, dark blue, and dark gray. Once assembled, it powerfully recreates the Unicorn Gundam's Destroy Mode at an impressive 45 cm tall, faithfully reproducing the statue's hand shape and backpack design, which differs from the original anime setting. This "FINAL" version also includes newly designed body marking decals.
The exposed "Psychoframe" throughout the armor is molded in clear red parts, and its eyes can emit a green glow via an internal LED unit. Accessories include armaments such as the Beam Magnum, Beam Saber, and Shield. Ratchet-style PC parts used in the limb joints enhance strength for posing and holding weapons, allowing for dynamic battle poses like shooting and slashing.
