The beloved romantic comedy "Serendipity," starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, is a nostalgic favorite for many, having earned a solid $77.51 million worldwide against a modest production budget of under $30 million. Now, this enduring classic is poised to charm a new generation, as original producer Miramax teams up with Amazon MGM Studios for a contemporary remake.

Earlier today, Deadline exclusively reported that the two studios have officially greenlit the "Serendipity" remake. The project will see original screenwriter Marc Klein return to pen the script, with Michael Showalter, director of "The Eyes of Tammy Faye," set to helm the new adaptation.

Showalter has become a frequent collaborator for Amazon and MGM in recent years, having directed "The Idea of You," "Oh. What. Fun.," and the upcoming "Verity," slated for release in two months. In a statement, Showalter clarified his vision, stating he doesn't view the new project as a mere remake or reboot, but rather as a "new argument" for the story.
