Rumors of a Jimmy Olsen-centric spinoff series from DC's new "Superman" film have circulated since last year, and after over a year in development, officials have finally unveiled the full title, plot synopsis, and cast.

The series is officially titled "The People v. Gorilla Grodd." The starring cast includes Skyler Gisondo, reprising his role as Jimmy Olsen, alongside his Daily Planet colleagues Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and Wendell Pierce as the Editor-in-Chief. Jimmy Tatro is confirmed to play Gorilla Grodd, the iconic adversary of The Flash from the comics. Additional new cast members include Mary Holland and Eduardo Franco.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn shared the news on social media:

Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, the creative duo behind the Netflix series "American Vandal," will serve as showrunners for the series. Tatro was also a cast member on "American Vandal." Much like their previous work, "The People v. Gorilla Grodd" will adopt a mockumentary-style true-crime comedy format, following Jimmy and other Daily Planet reporters as they investigate the misdeeds of various super-powered villains.

In the first season, Grodd has been convicted by the courts for the murder of his father, the King of Gorilla City. Jimmy, however, is determined to reinvestigate the case, seeking to uncover whether Grodd was wrongly accused in what has become Metropolis's most infamous murder trial. The inaugural season will consist of eight episodes; a premiere date has not yet been announced.
