BANDAI HOBBY, the model kit division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS, has announced that the latest addition to its high-end 1/100 scale Gunpla line, the MGEX series, will be unveiled during the "Latest! Gunpla Info Bureau" program airing on the evening of August 25.
The MGEX (MASTER GRADE EXTREME) series was first launched in 2020 to commemorate Gunpla's 40th anniversary. This premium Gundam model line leverages BANDAI HOBBY's decades of accumulated technology and diverse materials to push the boundaries of expressing each mobile suit's unique "theme" to its absolute extreme. While offering more luxurious specifications compared to standard "MASTER GRADE" kits, the development pace for MGEX products is notably slower.
To date, the MGEX (MASTER GRADE EXTREME) series has only released two products: the Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka in 2020, which pushed the limits of lighting mechanisms, and the Strike Freedom Gundam in 2022, which focused on extreme metallic finishes. After a four-year hiatus, collectors are eagerly anticipating which mobile suit will be featured in the third installment, and what "extreme" theme it will challenge.
