Throughout the history of the James Bond film series, 007's adversaries have predominantly been male. Sophie Marceau in "The World Is Not Enough" and Maud Adams in "Octopussy" stand out as rare exceptions. However, Saoirse Ronan is clearly not content with such a short list of female antagonists, having long expressed her desire to join their ranks.

Ronan first voiced this ambition six years ago during an interview with MTV, stating her keen interest in playing a Bond villain. "I've gone up for a lot of big movies and haven't gotten them. Like, I'd love to do a Bond movie. What I really want to do is play a villain in a Bond movie or something like that, that would be really cool. I'd love to do a really big movie," she shared.
More recently, in an interview with Empire magazine, Ronan reiterated that she is absolutely serious about her aspiration to portray a Bond antagonist. "I'd love to play a villain. I've said before that I'd love to play a Bond villain, and I'm serious about that. I think it would be really interesting to create a young female villain. Especially for girls and women, seeing someone unleash all that suppressed anger towards a goal is inherently dramatic, so I'd love to explore more roles like that."
