Just two weeks ago, HBO's new "Harry Potter" series announced Nicholas Hoult would join the Season 2 cast as Gilderoy Lockhart, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. However, today, entertainment outlet Deadline exclusively revealed that Hoult has now exited the role, with "Game of Thrones" alum Kit Harington stepping in as his replacement.

Regarding Hoult's sudden departure, Deadline reported that scheduling conflicts prevented him from aligning with the production's filming schedule, leading to his withdrawal. Consequently, Harington, who was available, was brought in to take over. Interestingly, this isn't Harington's first time portraying Professor Lockhart; he previously voiced the character for last year's "Harry Potter" audiobook.

The "Harry Potter" series was renewed for its second season back in May and is slated to begin filming this fall. The first season is scheduled to premiere this Christmas.
