Nearly four years have passed since DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn announced "The Brave and the Bold," the new "Batman" film set within the DC Universe. While Andy Muschietti, director of "The Flash," is confirmed to helm the project, and Christina Hodson, who also penned "The Flash," is attached as screenwriter, progress on the film has been minimal.

This extended development period now appears poised to stretch even longer. Journalist Dan Marcus recently shared insights into the film's status, with critics and fans sharing their thoughts online:

The acquisition process, however, is not expected to conclude until next year, and its success is far from guaranteed. Paramount Skydance is currently undergoing rigorous antitrust review, with multiple state governments publicly opposing the transaction. While regulatory clearances have been satisfied in nearly 70 countries, a federal judge ruled on August 4, 2026, to delay the proposed merger until at least June 1, 2027, with an antitrust trial scheduled for March 2027. Regardless of the outcome, "The Brave and the Bold" cannot resume work until this review is complete. Marcus's initial post, intended to debunk false "Nightwing" casting rumors for "The Brave and the Bold," inadvertently revealed the current standstill facing the film.

However, following the spread of Marcus's post, Gunn himself directly refuted the news on Threads, stating, "It doesn't sound like something Andy would have said but the project is in no way on hold."
