Japanese toy giant TAKARA TOMY A.R.T.S. (T-ARTS) is set to release a charming new collection featuring popular Sanrio Characters: the "Sanrio Characters Wanko Figure" gashapon series! Each capsule toy will retail for 400 JPY and is slated for a September 2026 release.
This delightful "Sanrio Characters Wanko Figure" collection draws its name from a clever Japanese pun, combining "Wa" (和), meaning Japanese style, with "Wanko" (わんこ), an endearing term for a puppy. The Sanrio stars are reimagined as traditional "Inuhariko" (犬張子), a classic Japanese folk art papier-mâché dog that originated in the Edo period. These figures stand approximately 3.5 cm tall and beautifully blend modern pop culture with ancient tradition. Each character's head features their iconic facial expressions, while their bodies faithfully replicate the distinctive attire and black facial markings of Inuhariko.
