BANDAI SPIRITS’ BANDAI HOBBY model-kit brand has announced the latest release in its high-end MGEX line, which brings deluxe features to the 1/100 scale. Based on the theatrical anime film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the new「MGEX 1/100 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam」 is scheduled for release in March 2027.
The new mobile suit piloted by protagonist Kira Yamato, the ZGMF/A-262B Strike Freedom Gundam Type II, was upgraded by Morgenroete using the latest technology. While its overall appearance remains largely unchanged, every weapon except the high-energy beam rifle has been renewed. By combining with the new enhancement unit “Proud Defender,” piloted by Lacus, it becomes the ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam, gaining access to devastating weapons including the “Convergent Heavy Nucleus Beam Cannon” hidden in its forehead.
The third MGEX release, 「MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam」, uses “mechanical plating” in three different color tones to create layered gloss and refined mechanical details. Building on the various mechanisms of the previous Strike Freedom Gundam, the kit recreates the machine’s signature gold frame as well as the pink glow emitted from its wings. The rear-mounted “Proud Defender” can be detached, while its wing structure combines a deployment mechanism inspired by the Super DRAGOON Mobile Weapon Wing. The wings are divided into multiple sections, exposing the internal gold frame and creating a highly mechanical look when deployed.
