British actor Dan Stevens (pictured left), known for his roles in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" and Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast," has officially been cast as the lead in the new "RoboCop" series. He will portray Alex Murphy, the iconic half-man, half-machine officer. Amazon MGM Studios confirmed the news on its official social media channels.
The new "RoboCop" series is executive produced by "Aquaman" franchise director James Wan, who is also set to direct several episodes, including the pilot. Peter Ocko, a television writer who has worked on series such as "The Leftovers" and "Elementary," is penning the script and serving as showrunner.
Reportedly, the series will introduce a new RoboCop model named Mark Kael. Like the original Alex Murphy, Kael is a cyborg created after dying in the line of duty, and Murphy will guide him through his new life. However, unlike Murphy, Kael was a soldier, not a police officer, and his death occurred in battle rather than at the hands of criminals.
