BANDAI SPIRITS’ BANDAI HOBBY model-kit brand has revealed full details for its latest high-end MGEX release, based on the theatrical anime film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM. The new「MGEX 1/100 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam」 is scheduled for release in March 2027.
The new mobile suit piloted by protagonist Kira Yamato, the ZGMF/A-262B Strike Freedom Gundam Type II, was upgraded by Morgenroete using the latest technology. While its overall appearance remains largely unchanged, every weapon except the high-energy beam rifle has been renewed. By combining with the new enhancement unit “Proud Defender,” piloted by Lacus, it becomes the ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam, gaining access to devastating weapons including the “Convergent Heavy Nucleus Beam Cannon” hidden in its forehead.
The third entry in the series, “MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam,” takes on the theme of “light expression.” It is the first Gunpla to use“mechanical plating” technology on runners in multiple colors. Three differently colored mechanical-plated clear parts create layered gloss and refined detail, reproducing the red sections on the shoulder armor, the blue sensor on the head, and the pink glow emitted by the wings as they release nanomachines.
The Strike Freedom Gundam Type II portion of the kit inherits the previous Strike Freedom Gundam’s extensive frame-linked articulation mechanisms, while new parts recreate its updated design. The frame’s gold parts also receive new molding colors and secondary finishes. Multiple types of gold plating, EXTRA FINISH treatment, andReal Metallic Gloss Injection work together to create a richly layered gold frame.
The newly sculpted rear-mounted“Proud Defender” features a more elaborate design and dense mechanical detailing. Its mechanical-plated clear parts recreate the pink glow emitted from the wings, while the wing structure incorporates a deployment mechanism inspired by the“Super DRAGOON Mobile Weapon Wing.” The wings split into multiple sections and unfold to expose the internal gold-plated frame, creating a more dramatic silhouette. The main body also features original armor-expansion mechanisms across the shoulder armor, skirt armor, legs, and other areas.
The weapons include theFutsunomitama anti-ship sword, thePrototype 35 Type Modified railgun, two beam rifles, two beam sabers, and effect parts for the arm-mounted beam shields. Combined with the frame’s flexible articulation, they can recreate a variety of combat poses from the film. The cockpit has been redesigned as a two-seat configuration and includes mini figures of Kira and Lacus that can be placed inside. A separate mini figure of Lacus with her wings spread can also be positioned on the chest armor to recreate one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
