Director Joe Carnahan, known for his crime and action films like "The A-Team," scored a major hit earlier this year with his Netflix release "The Rip." The film not only generated high viewership for the streaming giant but also garnered strong critical reception and audience favor. It seems Carnahan isn't planning to leave Netflix anytime soon, as his next feature is also set to be a collaboration with the streamer, and its lead star has already been cast.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline today, Carnahan's next action film is titled "The Operator." The screenplay comes from Harrison Query, writer of last year's Amazon action-comedy "Heads of State," and Mark Wahlberg is confirmed to star. Wahlberg will portray a CIA operative, once a top agent, who now specializes in covertly covering up evidence for the agency. However, when he's tasked with escorting a criminal he despises on a secure extraction mission, the assignment quickly devolves into a life-or-death cat-and-mouse game.
