PLEX and X-PLUS are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the "Mothra" film with an exciting new release from their "Toho Large Monster Series" line: the Mothra Leo sofubi figure! This highly anticipated collectible will be available in both a standard edition and a Shonen Ric limited edition, priced at 38,500 JPY and 39,600 JPY respectively. Fans can expect these majestic figures to ship in November 2026.
Mothra Leo (モスラレオ), also known as New Mothra, made its debut in the "Heisei Mothra Trilogy" (1996-1998). As the offspring of the original Mothra, Leo quickly established itself as the most powerful and versatile incarnation of the divine moth in the series. Breaking free from the traditional limitations of only spinning silk, Mothra Leo could fire lasers even in its larval stage. As an adult, it evolved through various forms to adapt to different combat situations, including Rainbow Mothra, Aqua Mothra, Lightspeed Mothra, and the ultimate Armor Mothra.
This impressive Mothra Leo figure stands approximately 37 cm tall and boasts a wingspan of about 43 cm, dynamically sculpted to capture its fierce battle with Desghidorah. The main body is elegantly supported by a metal stand integrated into a meticulously crafted deadwood-style base. The sculpt faithfully recreates Leo's distinctive sharp wing design, with intricate details like the seamless transition from its furry body to its wings and the sharp claws on its six legs all exquisitely reproduced. The paint application is equally stunning, perfectly capturing the texture of its vibrant green compound eyes and the brilliant green and orange hues of its wings, resulting in a truly immersive and detailed appearance. For collectors seeking an extra touch of authenticity, the Shonen Ric Limited Edition features LED light-up eyes, allowing fans to recreate Mothra Leo's iconic glowing gaze as seen in the films!
