Danish building toy giant LEGO and Japanese video game company Nintendo have officially unveiled the all-new LEGO Super Mario lineup for 2027. Moving beyond the electronic interactive figures that previously anchored the theme, this wave finally introduces the standard LEGO minifigure format fans have been waiting for. The first wave features popular characters including Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Princess Peach, and Bowser, along with familiar locations and elements such as Warp Pipes, Mario Kart, Mario's House, and Bowser's Castle. All eight sets are scheduled for release on January 1, 2027, with prices ranging from $9.99 to $99.99.
Since its 2020 debut, LEGO Super Mario has focused primarily on course-based play using interactive Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach figures equipped with built-in screens and sensors. At MAR10 Day earlier this year, LEGO offered the first teaser for a standard LEGO Mario minifigure. Now that the complete lineup has been revealed, the theme is expanding beyond electronic gameplay into traditional character, vehicle, and location-based role-play.
The entry-level lineup starts with the 61-piece 72052 "Mario's Pipe Jump", which uses a lever to knock Goomba aside while Mario grabs a coin. The 84-piece 72054 "Racing with Mario" gives Mario a kart equipped with a shell launcher, while the 196-piece 72055 "Mario's Beach Adventures" sends Mario to the shore in swimming shorts. A refreshment stand, lounge chair, wave build, Sidestepper, and other accessories turn the adventure into a full-blown beach vacation.
Luigi and Yoshi also join the action in this wave. 72056 "Luigi & Bowser Jr.'s Race" pits Luigi and Bowser Jr. against each other in a coin-grabbing kart race. It is also the first LEGO Super Mario set designed for builders ages 4 and up. Meanwhile, 72057 "Yoshi at Mario's House" recreates Mario's home with a garden, bedroom, kitchen, and green slide, giving Mario and Yoshi a cozy setting for everyday adventures.
Mario Kart fans will want to check out the 409-piece 72058 "Bowser's Rumbling Race". The set includes Bowser in the Bowser Bruiser, Toad in the Zoom Buggy, Goomba in the Biddybuggy, and a brick-built Cow riding the Tune Thumper. Each vehicle features its own play functions, including shell launchers, fireballs, and flames blasting from the rear, bringing the chaos of a Mario Kart race to brick-built life.
The largest set in the first wave is the 850-piece 72060 "Fire Mario & Bowser's Castle", centered around a Bowser's Castle build standing approximately 26 cm tall. Fire Mario must break through defenses mounted by Bowser, Koopa Troopa, and Goomba to rescue Princess Peach. The fortress also features launchable lava balls, hidden traps, and a secret treasure chest packed with coins. Launching alongside it, 72061 "Fire Luigi vs. Koopa Troopa Battle" debuts the Fire Luigi minifigure. Builders can load him into a cannon, launch him onto the castle tower, and search the ? Block for a Fire Flower.
